Seth attended Towson University and has been living and making art in Baltimore ever since moving from Emmitsburg.

His manipulation of color provides subtle hints of depth among a vast array of tones and shapes. Washed out areas bring other vibrant colors to life.

I love the color vibrations that he uses in this painting. I know that it’s been widely used and almost over extended in the past, but little hints of color vibration in a painting can really bring out areas, and work well in a style exactly like Seth’s.

Apart from the obvious reference to goals and the up hill battles that one faces, this is a striking painting.

My only issue with Seth’s work is not his imagery, or technique, they all work increadibly well. It’s his composition. These are centrally located images, and although there is a lot going on in all of them and you want to look long enough that you don’t miss anything, there is a definite sense of finality when moving on to the next image. That you are completely through with that image and you don’t really need to see it again irritates me, and I want to see a push for something more interesting, a reason to go back again.

Next we have a Mold Making demonstration. This is really cool! Life Cast mold making company will come in and everyone gets to make a mold and cast of their hand! So yes it is hands on, and prepared to get a little dirty maybe. The demo is on Sunday, May 25th from 12-4pm. And since this is such an involved and long demonstration we are asking for a registration fee of $5 per person. If you are interested please come into the store and register for this event!

This is seriously an interesting website to check out - Art Channel.  It shows you all you need to know about watching it via your computer.

We will be open LATE tomorrow April 29th for all of you stressed out students.  So you have until 10pm to realize that you need more paint and canvases!!

 I know that you students have been and will be REALLY busy the next few days, so what ever you do don’t have a nervous break down.

To help with Finals Utrecht Baltimore will be staying open LATE unitl 10pm on Monday, April 28th and Tuesday, April 29th.  This way if there are any emergencies we will be here for you.

We are continuing to take submissions for the 1st “Semi-Annual Utrecht Baltimore and Mark Whistler Gallery free juried art exhibit“.  So if you have been thinking of putting in work you have until April 29th to do so.  Remember there is NO ENTRY FEE!  However, we are only taking one submission per person, and everything will be hung.  There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.  The opening will be held on May 2nd!

I will also be at the gallery with camera in hand to take pictures of the show and all of the work, and write about about it here, so get some FREE EXPOSURE.

Utrecht Art Supply in Baltimore is working with the Mark Whistler Gallery to bring you our first semi-annual free juried art exhibition.

Show date is May 2nd 2008, we will be accepting submissions from April 25th to April 29th.  All entries must be hand delivered to either Utrecht Baltimore or Mark Whistler Gallery.  There is NO ENTRY FEE, however, artists must sign artist/gallery contract upon drop off of work.

Work must have artist’s name, address, phone number, email, artwork title, dimensions, media, and price.  All art work must be for sale and ready to be hung or installed easily (3-D work).

Prizes will be awarded before or by May 3rd. 

First Place - $100

Second Place - $50

Third Place - $25

This is a great opportunity for exposure for EVERYONE.

Larry Stevens spoke for two hours on preparing yourself for the real world as an artist. This included networking yourself, speaking about your art work, promoting yourself, and marketing yourself to galleries and other venues.
